This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
At our Title I school, students rely on the resourcefulness of the school community to seek out tools to help create the most engaging and impactful learning experiences. I have seen firsthand that when my students have the resources they need, to support passionate teaching, they thrive.
My students are curious, brilliant, and compassionate 7th graders who are eager to learn and work together to solve some of the most pressing issues facing our community, from climate change to health inequity.
They are ethnically, culturally, and literally diverse, and are all ready to learn a way to empower our community!
My Project
The most inspiring moments in my classroom happen when students are not all working on the same thing. A classroom that is responsive to student needs creates opportunities for students to learn at their own pace, meaning one student might be accessing a different resource than the student next to them.
This doesn't mean that students are working in isolation with a computer, but that students work at their own pace as a means of contributing powerfully in collaborative projects.
I use an online platform to assign materials and resources for my students that reflect their current needs. In this environment, my students need headphones to access digital resources, such as DiscoveryEducation, Brainpop, and Khan Academy, to support our daily learning activities. The 30 headphones requested in the project will enable me to provide a learning experience that meets students where they are.
