Headphones, Headphones, We Need Headphones!

My students need individual pairs of headphones for their Yoga Chromebooks.

My Students

My school is a high poverty, Title I school in an urban area. My students face several challenges in their daily lives. Many of them do not know where their next meal is coming from, let alone know where they will be sleeping that night. I have students who are homeless, students who live in motels, and students who must worry about whether or not their family will be evicted from their apartment at the end of the month. Each day, all students are served a free breakfast and free lunch, and I often provide them with a snack. Despite all of the obstacles my students face, they are emerged in their reading and strive to become lifelong readers.

My Project

My students and I are requesting a class set of headphones to use with our Yoga Chromebooks. We do not have enough working headphones in our room and are in desperate need of them. Most of our headphones are broken and not able to be used by the students. We are a Title I school and most students can not afford to purchase their own headphones. We just started a school-wide reading intervention called Lexia Core 5 that takes place daily in our classroom.

We will get a lot of use out of these headphones!

We will be using them everyday-multiple times a day! We need them so the students can start our new reading intervention. We will also get more use out of them when we use them for math, spelling, grammar, stations, and writing. This will allow students to get more support in math, writing, phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, and comprehension skills.

Have you ever tried to listen to music, a YouTube video, or an audio book, and been unable to hear or concentrate because of the noise around you? When everyone is working in the classroom on various tasks, it is often challenging for students to focus on and hear what is happening on their computer.
