Headphones, Hands-On Tools, and Hope for Math Learners

My Project
My students are bright, curious middle schoolers who are eager to grow in their understanding of math. About 90% of them come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, which means they often don’t have access to the same learning tools as their peers in more resourced schools. I want to change that by giving them engaging, hands-on materials that will make math interactive, accessible, and fun. With headphones, manipulatives, visual supports, and a laminator, I can provide durable resources that help all 71 of my students build confidence with fractions, algebra, graphing, and problem-solving.
These materials will allow me to create reusable lessons and give students the chance to “see” math come alive.
The laminator will protect math games, anchor charts, and task cards so they last all year. Headphones will give every student access to digital practice on Carnegie Learning Mathia and I Ready Pathway activities without distraction. At the same time, Cuisenaire rods and fraction dominoes will make abstract concepts concrete. Large magnetic coordinate boards will let us model and explore graphing together as a class. My goal is to create a learning environment where students can collaborate, problem-solve, and persevere—developing the skills and confidence they need to be successful not only in math, but in life.
