My Students

My 4th and 5th grade students are creative, curious, fun-loving and love to learn. The school we learn at is a public, neighborhood elementary school with a high number of English Language Learners, special education programs, and free/reduced lunch qualifiers. Our classroom is part of an alternative learning program that focuses on kids learning through community, projects, and integrated themes. I enjoy teaching in an alternative environment because it feeds into students' natural curiosity and passion to learn; we engage in interesting, real-world studies that keep students on their toes and problem-solving for the future. The kids always rise to the challenge!

The students in my classroom love to learn 21st century skills using their Chromebooks to extend their learning through coding, listening to books, playing math games, researching topics and learning how to be media literate!

My students need headphones so that they can fully benefit from the digital tools our school offers. Many of my students are low income and not having access to headphones limits their engagement with their Chromebook.

This is my first year at this school. I hope to keep these resources for students to come!

My Project

Headphones will give access to the digital world! Students will use headphones for their intervention and extension reading and math time to use websites that support them at their level. Another way that headphones will be used is during media literacy instruction especially when learning about copyright and quality information sources. Headphones will be useful in our Genius Hour time when students are listening to podcasts and video to increase their understanding of their project. Multiple times a year we do standardized testing and it's difficult to come up with headphones for all the kids so having a class set of headphones will ease that burden.
