Headphones for STEM Enrichment

Help me give my students Samson over-the-ear headphones to help them focus and take advantage of the audio options on our Chromebooks.

My Students

I teach STEM Enrichment to elementary students in an urban setting. My goal is to make math meaningful, appealing and accessible to all students. My students enjoy games and activities that help them to practice their STEM skills using Chromebooks.

My early learners, English Language Learners and those with hearing impairments benefit from using audio options on computers.

They can be easily distracted by noise in the room. Children who cannot read yet need auditory cues. Those who are multilingual, for whom reading English is a challenge, need auditory translation options. The hearing impaired need ambient noise to be lessened.

All of my students will focus more fully with the benefit of headphones. My classroom is equipped with Chromebooks, but we have no headphones to keep students on task and to meet their individual needs while on the computers. With this scaffolding, I hope to lift all students to a level that they can have a rich educational experience

My Project

These Samson over-the-ear headphones will help STEM education students focus and take advantage of audio options on our Chromebooks. Beginning readers and students who are new to the English language will benefit from auditory and translation tools. My students who have hearing impairments and autism can use the headphones to block out ambient noise.

An important part of meeting all needs in the STEM classroom is to allow students to use computers to access materials in a variety of ways, including auditory.

Our Chromebooks provide options to translate into many languages and have text to speech options that help younger students and those with special needs access materials.

Students will be reading articles and watching videos for research as well as playing games to increase math skills. Headphones are a must in a classroom of 25 students! All students will focus better and enjoy their learning more if we can provide headphones!
