This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are from a community that has been hard hit by COVID-19. Many families of students are frontline workers and at high risk of contracting the virus. Almost all my students are living in close quarters with other family members who are doing online schooling or working from home.

In order to reach my high-need students, I must provide the tools necessary to deliver high quality and accessible lessons.

To do this, I am making sure to approach online distance learning through an equity lens to serve my intelligent, bright, and super deserving students!

My Project

Students this year have been using a blended learning approach to complete assignments both in class and at home. For our science class, we have a set number of modules to work through that students can access through our learning system from anywhere. However, sometimes students are unable to concentrate on their work because of the environment that they are in.

Since this year we have had to switch learning to a more independently paced model, students must often work from environments that are not conducive to learning.

By providing headphones to use both during in person study hall hours where students may all be watching different videos and during after school time where students may be working at the same desk as another family member, we can ensure higher levels of concentration on class work.
