The one thing that makes my students so special is their diversity. We have students from all over the world and all walks of life in our school which is a learning experience in itself. In an environment such as this, students learn respect for others and their cultural differences.
What this diversity also creates, are language barriers that often makes teaching and learning difficult because of the background knowledge and exposure that comes with being from different cultural backgrounds and varied experiences.
That's why it is so important for me to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of my students.
These headphones will allow my students to address their individual needs by implementation of various online programs provided within the school.
Many of the programs we use have video tutorials or games for students to engage in for practice and understanding which require the use of headphones.
Since I assign work based on individual needs, the tutorials are an excellent reinforcement, especially for students who are auditory and visual learners. They have the capacity to work at their own speed, rewind or replay videos for clarification purposes, and see skills being modeled for understanding.
Having a class set of headphones would not only engage students through differentiated instruction but it would allow for 21st century teaching at its finest.
