My students need listening center headphones for two of their centers - computers and listening. Whether they cannot afford decent headphones or they are broken, many students do not have headphones for their center.
As a first grade teacher of a "supported classroom" with low-income students, most of my students face challenges inside the classroom and outside the classroom. To help these students succeed, I provide them with a welcoming, loving, calm, organized classroom. While there is calm and routine, I always make it fun and exciting so they remember what they learned!
My students are energetic, smart in their own ways, and excited to learn in new ways.
Half of my students are ESE with needs beyond that of most of their peers. Many of their families are busy working more than one job and receive free lunch based on their income. These same students arrive early every day for the free breakfast the district offers. These obstacles at home hinder my students from getting the attention all children thrive and typical life experiences we often take for granted. Despite these living conditions, all of my students come to school excited and wanting to learn more. While I may not be able to help out at their homes, I can do everything in my power to make this a warm, fun, and exciting learning experience.
The Listening Center Headphones are going to help my students complete their center activities. They will also allow others around them to concentrate on their work without being disturbed by the computer or read along stories.
The headphones will allow the students to concentrate on their work and learn all they can from their activities.
Computers and listening centers can be very noisy for others close to them. Many students have speech issues and need the volume up to hear the correct letter sounds in a game or story. Having the volume up also helps block out distractions around the room for the easily distracted first graders.
