Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our elementary school is a very dynamic and diverse group of students who are excited to learn every day. We challenge our students every morning to do their very best. As a school community, academic success is the ladder for our students to climb towards their unlimited potential.

Our elementary school is a Title I school with many students who are very low in socioeconomic status including over 90% receiving free or reduced-price lunch at school.

Although in an impoverished area of the city, our school aims to be a very tight-knit community providing a safe and secure learning environment for our students to thrive in. Many of our students speak languages other than English at home so our staff strives to provide adequate opportunities for English language development. The teachers and students of our school are dedicated towards common goals of high academic achievement, personal responsibility, and becoming positive role models for our peers.

My Project

My students are in need of individual pairs of headphones. My students were lucky enough to be given a cart of Chromebooks for our second-grade classroom. Having headphones in a one to one laptop classroom allows students to watch instructional and educational videos, listen to audio feedback on their writing, and listen to and reply to video feedback. Having an engaging and exciting classroom can make it loud for students which makes not having headphones very difficult. Over time, my students have used their provided headphones well and the wear and tear have taken its toll on them. Unfortunately, we now have more students than the headphones.

Every student should have access to all components of an effective educational technology curriculum.

One of my favorite parts of having Chromebooks is allowing students the opportunity to record their voice or shoot short videos to demonstrate their learning. Having the ability to go back and watch yourself in a video or recording gives valuable feedback for students but only if you have quality headphones.
