My Students

The majority of students in my two French immersion classes come from comfortable, well-supported homes. We are a STEM school that places an enormous amount of value on teaching these science, technology, engineering, and math concepts. As my students are learning science and math in another language, the manipulatives used in these lessons, and in my reviews, are critical to their understanding and review of the science curriculum. Because many of these reviews involve the technology used in our school, there are technological tools that are invaluable as well.

My Project

Our school is 1:1, meaning all students have access to their own device to use during and after school hours. What our school does not have is enough working headphones for all students to use with these devices.

In my classroom, we use our devices to review reading, writing, math, and science concepts on an almost-daily basis.

Particularly in math and science, it is imperative that we have working technology to review what the students are learning with their French teacher. It makes things very tricky and frustrating for the students and their poor teacher when the headphones aren't working properly. Not only does it waste critical learning time, but it pulls the kids' focus away from their learning and it can be difficult to get their heads back in the game.
