This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am a first year teacher. My students use their computers everyday and I have not been able to provide headphones for them to use. I work at a Title 1 school, so my students are not able to afford quality headphones to use either. These headphones would help us so much with keeping our classroom quieter while we have computer time. We use computers for iReady reading and math (which is a learning intervention that we frequently use to help close learning gaps). iReady has diagnostic tests that require headphones, but about half of my class has not been able to get headphones which I believe can limit their ability to focus and learn as much as they can from this online intervention. The headphones would allow equality for my students, and it would allow for a quieter classroom environment which would promote learning.

The different colored cardstock paper is for our 2nd grade team which we will use for something called Rainbow math.

We have noticed that our 2nd graders this year are not familiar with quick math facts. We believe this to be a detriment that was brought forth from COVID-19. Each color of the cardstock would represent a different number for math facts (for example, 0s are red, 1s are orange, 2s are yellow, etc.). The cardstock would be such a big help because each student in the entire second grade would get to take home their own math facts and practice at home. We believe this will promote a higher level of fluency in math and benefit this group of students for years to come.
