I will begin a new year teaching at a Title I school. I am very eager to begin working with my new kindergarten students. My students are from a high poverty area. The needs of my students will range from English language learners to children at risk (some may be homeless) to children with other special needs.
Our school has over 620 students from countries all over the world.
My job consists of helping students transition to kindergarten-- some of my students have been in school before and some of my students will experience school for the first time.
Due to the circumstances of many of my children, school provides an important experience of safety, love, and learning. With little support from home, our time together at school is essential to helping each child feel excited about learning and, most importantly, loved.
My Project
Our classroom has been given the iPad cart that the fifth graders used in previous years. We are extremely excited and the students LOVE using the iPads to read books on their level and to hear books read to them. Our students will benefit from having headphones to use on the iPads so that each student can focus more on the lesson at hand. For example, the headphones will help to block out other noise from the classroom (guided reading groups, independent reading, etc.). The headphones will also limit the distractions from other students who are actively engaged in independent reading or small groups.
Our students are reading and learning the benefits of technology; headphones and more leveled readers will help the students be more prepared for next year.
Our library has grown and grown; our students are loving to see new books regularly. The book packaged selected is a leveled library perfect for students preparing for First Grade. Also, the books are informational text which has been a big focus during this part of the year. What can we learn from books?! We love books!
