This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I love that my students take ownership of our classroom. They learn from the moment they walk in the room that this is not only my class, but theirs as well. They work around the room at different areas throughout the day and year, so making sure they know they have a certain space, besides their desk, that is theirs and belongs to them is important. Students use the book bins as a way to keep supplies that might not be used on a daily basis, near by and organized. I give students the freedom to use this book bins how they see fit, the only rule is, they should stay clean.

Students learn responsibility by having a weekly check on their book bins, making sure they are clean, organized, and in good condition.

The same is done with their headphones. My students need headphones to complete online assignments and educational platforms. These headphones will belong to them for the year. It is their responsibility to keep them clean and in working order. Each week we have a time where they can wipe them down, and make sure that they are working correctly. By being able to have these materials in my classroom, I can teach my students about keeping their area clean, and the responsibility of being organized. I know that teaching my student how to keep an area clean is not apart of a core standard, but I also know, that if I can teach my students how to be organized and clean, they will have less barriers to get over, and will be able to be more successful.
