My school is a MEDIA Magnet school. Each student has a device provided to them. My third graders have chromebooks. Students complete almost all of their work on their chromebooks. I integrate technology in every lesson that I teach.
They love technology.
They beg me to use their Chromebooks every minute of the day. I have seen an improvement in students achievement through the use of their chromebooks. There are math activities the students love that build fluency. There are reading lessons and online books found on various websites. Students are able to watch Brain Pop videos to enhance their understanding of science and social studies concepts. They are learning to research and are doing project based learning.
We need 20 headphones in the classroom because many of the resources my students use on their Chromebooks require sound. As you can imagine, when 20 students are doing activities that involve volume, it can get pretty loud. This is disruptive for students. Some of the programs have tutors provided for the students. If one student is doing one lesson while another is on a different lesson, this is confusing for the students.
Students will get individualized help.
Through providing headphones, my students will be able to focus on meaningful activities. Students will not be distracted and can be completely involved in their own learning instead of their classmates' learning.
