This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My class consists of twenty-five wonderful first graders. My school is a large urban school in a loving community, but unfortunately we have limited funding for our students.

We are a unique group with a mix of regular education students, special education students, and English Language Learners.

I take pride in building a sense of community in my classroom. I emphasize collaborative learning and work hard to provide an atmosphere where students feel safe and respected. My students love to learn and deserve a classroom environment that supports this learning.

My Project

Students in our classroom are encouraged to be independent. Lately, when students are using our existing headphones they need help because they can't hear. It can be so frustrating for a six- or seven-year-old. Many of our headphones need to be replaced.

These requested Sony headphones will be used for computers and iPads and at our listening center where students choose their own high quality books.

New headphones will lessen the frustration of students as they work independently.

English Language Learners in our class use the computers (with headphones) to increase their English vocabulary and reliable technology is crucial to their learning. Also, as students are engaged in high quality literacy and math activities it allows me to focus on much needed small group instruction without interruptions from students because they can't find headphones that work.
