Headphone Help

My students need durable headphones in various sizes for use with our many programs on the laptops in the library.

My Students

Last year I took a position as a librarian at a K-5 Title I school. I have enjoyed getting to know this diverse population of students. A majority of the students are on free/reduced meal plans. Many students eat dinner after school through our ASPIRE enrichment program

My students love to come to the library to check out books, use technology or participate in other activities that are available.

They are curious, smart and surprise me every day no matter the age.

Our school population consists of students who speak several languages such as Spanish, French, Arabic, and English. Many just learning English when they arrive at our school. I am amazed how quickly they can learn a second language and I learn from them every day.

My Project

Not only do my students come to the library to check out books but they have the choice to explore different programs on our laptops. The original headphones provided have continued use and have not held up well with kindergarteners to fifth graders using them. Therefore, I am asking for durable headphones by HamiltonBuhl in a smaller size for the younger students and Overtime Phamtom headphones for the older students.

With few working headphones, it is hard for students to concentrate on listening to our Capstone e-books because of the distraction of sounds from other laptops.

My younger students love to listen to stories that incorporate songs but for those reading in quiet areas of the library, this is a disturbance. If each student on a laptop had quality, appropriately sized, headphones then this problem would be solved. Students could also use headphones for other programs available.

Research shows students that listen to books above their reading level can teach good listening skills and model fluent reading. The headphones are a great need so the students can hear these stories in a large group setting. Through these ebooks, both fiction and nonfiction, students can gain comprehension skills and knowledge of the world.
