The students I work with have a variety of disabilities. These disabilities range from ADHD, Autism, developmentally delayed, Cerebral Palsy and many more. These disabilities interfere with the students learning and their ability to complete daily living activities they require for independence in the classroom.
As an Occupational Therapy Assistant in a school setting, I work with a group of developmentally delayed students on completing a variety of daily activities.
Some of the activities we work on are handwriting, self-regulation, coloring, cutting and self-help skills.
My Project
This project will help my students get a head start to successful handwriting in the classroom. The pencil grips will improve the students ability to hold a pencil with the proper grasp and increasing their pencil control. The pencil weights will help increase fine motor and hand strength and pencil control needed for legibility of handwriting. The tracing and writing pad and magnetic white board and markers will help the students work on writing letters with proper formation. The touch and feel maze will help with sensory input needed for handwriting skills. The rainmaker, glitter wand and light up aquarium will work on self regulation skills for increased attention and decrease frustration during handwriting activities.
