Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our middle school students are navigating the bridge between childhood and adulthood.
They are busy discovering their true selves.
This exploration must be encouraged and our 7th and 8th graders need access to positive role models. An opportunity to study someone as influential and revolutionary as Malala Yousafzai will help widen the horizons of our students.
My Project
Our school plans to take our 7th and 8th grade students to see the film, He Named Me Malala. This film will conclude the 8th grade unit focusing on identity. Following the film, students will discuss how the community expectations affected Malala's identity and how her horrific experience changed her. The 7th graders have been examining ancient religions and cultures. This film will be a launching point for study.
This film is important for students to see how one person has the power to change the point of view of many.
Something they may take for granted is a privilege for many. This film will highlight the value of education and will also fit into curriculum in a variety of ways.
