This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Some of my students can't see beyond the math they do in a classroom. Math is not just about algebra. This trip to see He Named Me Malala will show students there is power in numbers and just how many people "stand with Malala."
My students come from all different backgrounds.
Some of them have neither the opportunity to travel outside of their neighborhoods nor the opportunity to watch a documentary. There are limited resources outside of school for them, but students are still motivated to get their education.
My Project
Students all across the country are being given an opportunity to watch and be inspired by Nobel Prize Winner Malala Yousafzai. Some students take for granted the access to education they have here in the US. In watching this movie, I hope my students will be inspired by her story and maybe encouraged to be catalysts of change in our own educational system.
This trip to see the documentary He Named Me Malala will give students an opportunity to appreciate the free education they are afforded.
They will also be inspired to know that change can come from just one person, no matter the age or circumstance. They can be the change they want to see in the world.
