This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are hungry for experience. In my school, my students don't have many opportunities to learn outside of the classroom because their parent or guardian for various reasons can't take them places. In my class, my students are participating, sharing ideas, laughing, and eager for education.
My students are minorities, and they are all eager for more education.
They inquire about the assignments we presently do and about future assignments. Their personalities are so different, but we create a safe and comfortable environment for the class when we are together.
My class is in no way perfect because I do need to keep structure and maintain discipline, but I don't have bad kids. My kids are pretty great and unique in their own ways. I have one student who can't sit still and never stops talking. Despite the distractions he creates, he always wants to answer questions or present to the class and completes all of his work.
My kids are amazing. My school has about 1500 students in it in an urban area. Our test scores and graduation rates are rising, but they are not where the state wants them to be. At the moment we are a level 4 school, and we are trying to move out of that.
My Project
My students need tickets and transportation to see the documentary He Named Me Malala. Students will be learning about the Pakistan culture and country before we view the movie, giving them global awareness. There will also be lessons on the Taliban and women's rights for the students. Projects that they will be completing include creating a newscast on Pakistan and writing a skit after viewing the movie.
I think that doing all of the lessons and viewing the movie will give our students global awareness.
Most students have no idea what goes on in other parts of the world, and this field trip will give them that awareness. I also like that the lessons will be delivered in both their history and English classes.
