My Students

My students are among the best and brightest this world has to offer. Throughout our time together, they have taught me about the resiliency and tenacity of youth. Their deep convictions and inspiring sense of duty to facilitate the change this world desperately needs continually drives my dedication to this profession. My students are adept critical thinkers who are gifted in not only seeing the world as it is, but how they can make it better by furthering ideals of equality and justice.

My students are truth seekers, difference makers, and world changers.

When I look at them I see innovators, creators, and teachers. They will leave my classroom after just a short time with me, but I know they will go on to do amazing things with their lives and it is my utmost priority to equip them with the tools and resources they will need to realize the potential that I've always known they possess. The future of this world is within my classroom and my greatest contribution to humanity will be to foster their brilliance and growth.

My Project

The writing lab is a peer-tutoring program facilitated by my school's chapter of National English Honor Society. As the club advisor and an English teacher, I can't help but see the great influence this lab could have on schoolwide literacy. NEHS students volunteer their time to assist other students with English work. They will edit papers, conduct one-on-one tutoring sessions, and are available to help students with any work related to English.

Though we have had success launching the writing lab this year, one challenge we've faced is the lack of available technology during tutoring sessions.

The majority of our English teachers use Google Classroom, therefore having limited access to technology in the writing lab makes it difficult to assist students. Additionally, the technology used in the writing lab would also be used to publish the school's literary magazine that will showcase student work in the areas of poetry, prose, and visual arts. This is a collaborative project between NEHS and the creative writing elective class. The magazine will serve to highlight and share creative student work with our school and community.

My goal through this project is to raise the necessary funding to purchase two desktop computers to increase the relevance and effectiveness of the writing lab next year.
