Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I come from an exciting and diverse district. Our city and our school district are prime examples of how people from all walks of life can come together to create a sense of community.
While we do have a true sense of community, there are many in the community who don’t have all the things they need, like food.
Because of this, a team of students and teachers at our school are building a Hawk Pantry.
Many of my students come from very low income families, and many fall under the poverty line, or are even homeless. It is my goal to find a way to help my low-income and homeless students by having healthy snacks on hand for when they get hungry and are unable to focus.
My Project
Research shows that it is harder to concentrate on an empty stomach. Many of my students come to school without the opportunity to eat until lunch, and a lack of resources at home can lead to hungry bellies. It is the goal of the Hawk Pantry to give these students the snacks they need to remove hunger and improve learning. Having the students in charge will foster a sense of community and compassion. By getting the chance to help others, our students will not only build relationships, but also build character. With your support, we can make happy, healthy, and productive citizens for tomorrow.
