Our school is 60 years old. The paint on most buildings is worn and chipping. The majority of students at MES are considered "Poverty Level". Our campus is often burglarized and as well as "tagged" with graffiti. Help my students develop and paint murals that incorporate the Hawaiian value words such as Pono, Kuleana, Aloha, Ha'Aha, Ho'omau, Kokua, Kupa'a, Lokahi, Laulima, Malama, and Mahalo to remind all students here at our school of how they should live. The majority of students at MES are of Hawaiian descent. With the many cutbacks in school budgets, Hawaiian culture classes have been eliminated from schools. This activity will help ground my students in their culture, bring dignity back to our campus, and help promote positive attributes of the Hawaiian culture to children who don't know what to value in life.
