My Students
My students are very enthusiastic readers and love to read books to take them on different adventures. They love to read new and try new and interesting things. This year we have been chosen to be apart of a Global Read Aloud where we will be able to communicate with other students all over the world either by Google Hangout, emailing, or a Google Classroom. After communicating with students from all over the country the students wanted to explore more. They were in awe that they could actually see students from another country. For weeks they were constantly talking about how much they loved learning about other places. With this new found love of learning I began to research different ways I could continue their excitement and came across Google Expeditions.
Living in a rural community, many of our students do not have the opportunities or resources to experience life outside of western North Carolina.
With limited travel experiences, having Google Expeditions in the classroom would provide students with a rich cultural knowledge aligned with current learning.
My Project
My classroom consist of 8 and 9 year old students on various levels of learning. Because each student is unique, my students learn differently. Some of my students are social learners, some are kinesthetic learners, and some are inquisitive, technology motivated students, intrigued by the world around them. Bringing virtual reality through Google Expeditions into the classroom will provide multifaceted learning experiences that move beyond the textbook and traditional ways of learning the North Carolina's Common Core Standards. This innovative hand held technology will create meaningful learning experiences that will allow my students to travel three dimensionally ands transporting them to new locations without ever stepping out of the classroom.
