My Project
Every morning, my students gather around our oval carpet to prepare for our day. We share exciting moments with each other and discuss the schedule for the day. We then begin our day with reading books, poems, listening for sounds and parts in words, practicing our letters and sounds and then decoding many words and sentences! It is a lot of hard work for their brains but they have so much fun they don't even realize how much work they are accomplishing!
To help my students to continue to grow as readers, we are in need of a few hands on resources!
We need magnetic white boards, magnetic counters and wands, dry erase markers and whisper phones. All of these materials will be used for students to listen to words, hear the sounds in the words and write the words. At the beginning stage of reading, it is important for student to hear each sound and manipulate the sounds by using hands on materials such as the magnetic counters to move for each sound that they hear. Once, they can hear the sounds and know how many sounds are in the words they then can write the letters that make those sounds. My students also LOVE to sit down with their own book to read. You will often find my readers on the couch, rocking chair, sitting on the carpet or other cozy spots reading their favorite books. While we encourage quiet reading to not distract their peers, it is also important for students to be able to read out loud to hear themselves read. The whisper phones will still allow them to read quietly so others will not be distracted but the reader can still hear themselves read! We would love for you to support our classroom of readers!
