My Students

My fabulous fourth graders have a natural passion for learning. They are full of life, energy, and love to explore. They make our classroom environment functional, mindful, comical, and admirable. In our spare time, we like to play dodge ball, read aloud, practice multiplication facts, and learn new brain exercises. Although we are in a small rural town, population 1,000, we have an extremely supportive community. Our school has one teacher per grade level, which allows students to build strong communities within their class. Our school is like a family. Although we are not large in size, we work hard to give students the best education that we can.

I work at a Title I school in the middle of nowhere.

75% of students receive free and reduced lunch. Many of my students come to school without having breakfast and some come to school without any school supplies. However, they are still active learners who strive to do their best everyday.

My Project

Kids are active learners with energy that can be positively used in the classroom. Energy-levels shouldn't be held in, but instead should be brought out in learning environments. While earning my Masters in Education, I spent over a year researching movement in the classroom. I developed a yoga program and have implemented it into my classroom every since. After observing several benefits of yoga in the classroom, I have been inspired to research other ways to use kinesthetic learning techniques. One way that stuck out to me is the use of stability balls instead of regular chairs, which is why I am passionate about bring them into my classroom.

Stability balls would increase student engagement, health awareness, focus levels, and productivity.

Users of these chairs have to constantly be in motion. Research has shown that stability balls are a way for students to remain focused in the classroom, while also connecting their minds to their bodies. When students sit on them, they are less distracted and more tuned in to lessons. If I don't have the attention of my students, then I am not an effective teacher. These balance balls would make it easier for my students to learn.
