Our school has been closed since March 13th. We had no idea that we would not be able to return to school so it had a huge impact on class moral. Although our school has provided iPads and Chromebooks, many students don't have access to internet service and are unable to participate in online learning.
My Project
Virtual learning is very different from learning in the building. Asking 1st graders to complete all of their work online can be very challenging, especially when they don't have all of the materials needed to be successful.
Having hands-on math materials that students can use at home will help to reinforce math concepts that we are learning online.
Developmentally, 1st grade students need materials that they can touch and manipulate to help them to truly understand a math topic.
Having math story books also helps to reinforce math concepts through story telling.
With many things out of our control as teachers and learners, having the materials we need helps to eliminate much of the stress.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
