My Students

Have you ever been so excited to talk about a book you've read that you can't hardly stand it? I want my students to experience the same excitement by participating in a book club.

As a middle school Title 1 reading teacher, I feel a responsibility to encourage all students in my building to love reading.

While most of the students I work with struggle with reading, I do get a chance to work with some students who excel at reading. Many of the students in our school don't own any books of their own. That's why I would love to be able to hand the students in my book club a book to keep and take home with them.

My Project

I would love to get a group of 7th graders together and start a book club! I have done this with 6th graders with lots of success. The students who participate in the book club will get a copy of their very own book to read and keep forever! My hope is that these students will share their books with siblings and friends, as well. The book I am asking for is Drums, Girls and Dangerous Pie.

There is something magical about cracking open a brand new book and smelling that wonderful new-book smell!

By giving students their own book, they feel important and get excited about reading. This will hopefully continue to grown their love, or possibly even ignite, their love of reading.
