My Students
With such a diverse group of learners entering my classroom each and every day, I am positive they are the future leaders of our community, state, country, and world. These young men and women are capable of just about anything they can imagine, as long as they are given the opportunity.
They are driven to succeed, and I am just a catalyst in their motivation.
With nearly fifteen percent of residents in the area are living with incomes below the poverty line, many of these students do not receive the encouragement and support at home necessary to ensure a positive outlook on their futures. Most families primary goal is to keep afloat financially. These are the students that depend on us to teach, guide, and encourage them to succeed.
My Project
The "No Fear Shakespeare" version of Othello allows students to mirror Shakespeare's original texts with plain English text in order to highlight the significant differences between the modern and original texts. In doing so, the text becomes more comprehensible and easily digestible.
Reading classic Shakespeare can be a daunting task for many high school students.
These books would offer students the opportunity to explore the countless themes and motifs presented in one of Shakespeare's plays in a way that allows the text to be more relevant to their lives. Giving student the opportunity to not stumble over the complex language, they are able to pay closer attention to detail in the overall meaning and connect to themes on a more personal level.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
