This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Every day, I get to hear questions from my curious students as they explore math and the world around them. I watch them struggle through new concepts and become so excited when something finally clicks! When we are able to go back to teaching in person, I want to be prepared as possible to meet all of their needs.

I have many students who are below grade level and need to experience math in a variety of ways--on paper, a whiteboard, while standing up, seated on the floor, etc., because the more variations with which I can present math to them, the more likely they will be engaged and understand the math!

A lot of my students are English Language Learners, too. This means that visuals and manipulatives for math become incredibly important so we can both overcome our language barriers. I also have some students who are on grade level or higher that need a push! I want to have a classroom that is welcoming and caters to all of their needs so they each can experience success this year in my math class.

My Project

If there's one thing about children, it's that they like to wiggle! I would love to give my students seating options that meet the needs of fidgety-ness and/or discomfort. Hard chairs are not easy to sit in all day and when you're uncomfortable, it's a lot harder to focus on learning.

This project will give students wiggle cushions for their chair or the floor, seated bouncy balls to sit on for those who really need to move while in their seat, stools for flexibility with small groups, and cushions that will be used for a floor learning space where students can collaborate and get away from their desk!

The remaining classroom materials will be used for classroom organization. We use a lot of materials and my students need to access them in an organized way!
