Our rural, remote, Title I school is very unique. We have students from different backgrounds, cultures, religions, and races. Some students are learning English for the very first time. Some students are very talented when it comes to learning, some require special education, and some students are working their hardest to give their best. Each morning, students greet us and each other with high-fives and hugs. We are truly blessed by the relationships that are built within our tiny community. Our students are the builders of tomorrow: the teachers, scientists, farmers, mothers, fathers, doctors, engineers, dreamers, and doers.
Seeing students engaged and deeply involved in their own education is a great joy to me.
I strive to provide hands-on learning experiences in a safe environment, where students are free to explore, make real-world connections, and see their knowledge grow and expand! Knowing that failing is a step towards success relieves our students from being fearful to try, and great things happen because of their growth mindset!
My Project
I've said it before and I will say it again, our reading center is the best part of our classroom. We love grabbing a book and getting cozy in a bean bag chair, meeting for whole group reading time on the carpet, or grabbing a pillow to do some learning on a new subject.
Over the years, things get worn and ripped, and we get smarter about what works and what doesn't in our reading center.
In this project, we are hoping to add another love sack and replace two bean bag chairs with foam. We love our bean bags, but they tend to rip at the seams rather easily with all the use we give them. Replacing the "beans" with foam will decrease the mess our beloved chairs create, allowing us to keep them.
