Can you imagine how hard it is to collaborate with other students when you don't have a chair to sit on? Our classroom has a table, but we do not have enough chairs to meet and work with our peers. Help us be more comfortable while we use Literature Circles around our reading table.
Our school is a public charter school.
I have motivated,enthusiastic, and energetic and 4th graders who are ambitious and inquisitive with a love for learning. They need to be challenged and engaged in their learning while being able to share their ideas with the class and their peers. Due to lack of funding, we do not always receive the funds needed to support the furniture needed in our classroom. I am reaching out to our community to help support this effort.
My Project
My students need chairs where we can sit together in a small group to meet with our Literature Circle groups. Literature Circles teach critical thinking and reflection as students read, discuss, and respond to books. Students collaborate and add onto their understanding as they construct meaning with other readers. Finally, Literature Circles guide students to deeper understanding of what they read through structured discussion and extended written and artistic responses.
Having a brand new set of chairs will enable my students to focus better. Right now, we are short on chairs so we are bringing our chairs from our desks to the reading table. These new chairs will provide a comfortable place for students to sit without using up precious time bringing their chairs to the table.
