My Project
For my beginning art classes, I teach fundamental drawing techniques and skills. For this project, students will use pens and sharpies to create two-point perspective house drawings with a wide range of values and textures. To start, students learn how to create value scales using pencils.
After, they use pens to practice creating values scales that use stippling, blending, hatching, and cross-hatching.
Once students practice using pens, students move on to learning how to draw textures such as wood, brick, grass, clouds, rocks, etc. I demo for students how to start drawing their two-point perspective houses. I encourage students to do several sketches where they explore possible textures that they would like to use for their houses. Using pencils, black sharpies, and pens, students spend a few class sessions creating two-point perspective houses. I ask that students fill their paper with at least 80% of different values and textures. They should create at least 5 different visual textures in their drawings.
In the last few stages of the project, students will use a colored Sharpie to make one thing in their drawing stand out. Once they have completed their drawings, students will be required to mat their art for future displays and critiques. To mat the art, students use black paper to give the work a nice, clean boarder.
