This STEAM project, Hats Off to Ocean Explorers and Scientists - F2025, will provide 24 craft-type straw hats, one for each learning team of 2 - 3 students. Students in the Marine Science classes will select an explorer or a marine scientist they are interested in researching. Students will research and learn about the explorer, then present their findings to the class in a short presentation, accompanied by other visual aids such as a slideshow or poster.
Students will use the straw hat and decorate it to represent their chosen explorer or scientist.
Then, during the presentation, they will wear the hat, if they can, to share what they have learned. My students will love this hands-on art component, which makes their learning fun and creative.
I am also requesting new Play-Doh. In Marine Science, we use the modeling compound to demonstrate our understanding of the bathymetry of the sea floor. In Earth Science, we model the types of faults and plate boundaries.
