My Students

My students are creative, thoughtful and full of questions! They absolutely love hands-on, active, engaging projects and challenges. In the library we work in groups to help to each other complete these challenges and my students always come up with great ideas.

I see every student in the building as the librarian.

I teach a wide range of academic abilities as well as a diverse student body. I am always looking for new ways to engage my students in lessons where their diverse backgrounds and abilities shine.

Each student in my library loves learning, they enjoy helping each other. They are truly an incredible group, and I am so lucky and thankful to have a new group of learners that are excited and ready to learn each year!

My Project

Students will be having lessons on different ways to do research. We will cover the various tools available to us through the library that will help with their research projects. We wanted to make these lessons interesting and hands-on. We decided to incubate and hatch eggs in the library to help students see first hand how eggs hatch and develop. It will bring their research to life.

We chose the Northern Bobwhite Quail because we can not only help the students learn research skills, but also teach them about conservation and helping the environment.

The tick population on Long Island is a growing problem and the Northern Bobwhite Quail eats ticks and helps control them. We are working with CEED to help introduce more adult quail into the wild.

We think the students will enjoy this project because not only can they see their research topic right in their classroom, but they are also helping the place where they live control the tick population. We will all have a great experience hatching the quail eggs and have many teaching opportunities with our students.
