This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach kindergarten through 6th grade students with a variety of learning, intellectual, and sensory needs in our elementary school's resource program. My students learn strategies that support their learning in their general education classes and work on individual goals to improve their reading and writing.
All of my students participate in small groups when in my class.
We practice the skills they need in many multisensory ways, using topics that are hands on and interesting to the kids.
My Project
The materials and supplies that I am requesting for my students will enable them to research and learn firsthand about how chickens develop and grow. It will give them a wonderful hands on opportunity to have an authentic experience to read further about this topic and write about it as well.
Students are more motivated to write and read about things they are interested and invested in.
Having the actual chicken eggs and incubator in the classroom for them to watch and understand the length of time it takes, and then see the chicks continue to grow, will be just the motivation my kids will need to push themselves to do their best at reading things that might be a little difficult, and write a passage with just a little more attention to detail.
