My project needs a solar telescope for the Astronomy Society.
I would like to propose a grant. This year we have a membership of 65 students, which has increased over the past few years since our beginning in 2003. Student participation in outside observations as well as sky-watching trips have also increased. The club members are very dedicated and have won two years in a row for their homecoming float, placing 2nd and 3rd.
This proposal is for a Solar Telescope (PST). The students do fundraisers as well as pay yearly dues in order to make the sky-watching trips a reality. Over the past 4 years, as a club, we have been able to save up enough to get a refractor telescope, but the students would greatly benefit from using a solar telescope during the day. Since the funds were used for the refractor telescope, there is not enough money to buy a solar telescope as well. We could not only have observation trips for the day for the astronomy club, but also take the solar telescope out during the regular school day and have physics students observe solar flares on the sun.
This solar telescope has a potential to impact over 1200 astronomy society members as well as thousands more students in physics classes just over the next 20 years! Please consider this proposal so that the Astronomy Society can make buying a solar telescope a reality. Thank you for your generosity and help.
