My Students
In the community where I teach my students can be easily motivated, very creative, and hard workers. When asked to complete work or explain work, they always surprise me with their very interesting answers. Their neighborhood is a tough neighborhood and they face many challenges on a daily basis. Just recently we were affected by Hurricane Harvey and as I am writing this grant we are still not in school, and many of the students are in shelters. However, when they come to school on our first day, they will know they are in a safe place and are free to be a child again.
During the school day my students know it is time to rise to their academic goals, support and encourage their peers, and have fun at being better than yesterday.
This can be very hard to get most of my students to adapt to, but I stick to this motto from August to May and I never give up!
My Project
Excitement is an emotion I would want my students to bring to the classroom every day. By providing students with equal supplies and equal opportunities to learn will keep the excitement in their learning. There is something about having a brand new pencil and your own eraser to make you want to complete work.
Engagement is expected from all students when you enter our classroom.
Having Samsung tablets in the room allows the students to learn at their own pace and be responsible for their own growth. By providing students with headphones they can keep their progress to themselves and not have to worry about peers knowing their academic levels.
Enough is something I want to always hear my students saying. We have enough pencils, we have enough erasers, we have enough, enough, enough! I feel better and can teach without distractions and know my students are focused on the lesson. Lastly, being able to showcase their work in laminating pouches and sheet protectors and keep it up for all to see will give them inspiration to want to do more.
