This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our project, "Harvesting Education: Bridging Gardens and Kitchens," is an exciting endeavor in our high school 2024-2025 Botany class. With eight outdoor gardens and an indoor hydroponic garden, we have an abundance of resources to engage our students in hands-on learning. Our students are enthusiastic and eager to explore the world of botany, nutrition, cooking, and sustainability.
I am requesting kitchen supplies such as an electric skillet, food processor, rice cooker, slicer, apple peeler, and various storage containers, so meal prep becomes efficient and enjoyable for a class of 33 students.
Additionally, eco-friendly paper plates and soup bowls align with our sustainability goals. My students will compile their recipes into homemade cooking books, fostering creativity and documenting their learning journey.
These tools will enable students to develop essential culinary skills while connecting with the natural world by using the food they grew all four seasons. Through this project, my goal is to empower students with practical knowledge, cultivate a deeper understanding of food systems, and foster a sense of responsibility towards the environment. I am excited to see how this project will ignite their passion for learning and inspire them to make positive changes in their lives and communities.
