This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
When was the first time you realized that a book can take you to exciting new worlds, all while you sit in one spot? For my students, that time is now. My middle school students are ready to take on the world. They are filled with anticipation, excitement, and wonder. They are also the kindest people I have ever met. They are extremely community and family oriented.
Students at my school are eager learners from an impoverished rural area, and they crave adventure and experience.
Our middle school is a safe haven for my students to grow, to explore their interests, and prepare for their futures. Many of my students don't have educational resources at home, and rely on school to prepare them in every way of life. They are enthusiastic and eager to learn, and they love to have fun.
My Project
The materials I am requesting are class copies of "Harry Potter" books. After having students read "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone," our school has noticed drastic improvements in reading comprehension and literacy skills.
Not only are scores improving, but the kids are hooked!
Even the students who said they hate Harry Potter are begging to take the books home! They are desperate to continue reading the series. This could make the biggest difference in the future of my students!
The kids have "Potter Fever" bad, please help us continue our book study by helping us get the next book in the series, Harry Potter & the Chamber of Secrets.
