My students need Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone with library binding so we can do the engaging and current book study that my students have begged for!

The students at our middle school are the most genuine and kindest I've come across since I began teaching. They are exceptionally community and family oriented. Our entire school district is classified as Title I, and most of the schools have been identified as "at risk". As we are positioned in the notorious "Corridor of Shame", many of our students are tragically entrenched in a culture of poverty and despair. With so much funding decided on property value, our students are now enduring the fallout from a struggling economy more than ever. Yet despite these substantial hurdles, my students come and try and do their best daily. It is their hopeful and enduring spirit that has led me here for them. They deserve resources at least matching their amazing spirit!
When students hear the words, "book study" their blood tends to run cold as they collectively moan in agony. We've all been there at some point, forced to read a "classic" that we never really understood at the time. There had to be a better way. After a brief, but exciting discussion with a few of my classes we came to the joint conclusion that doing a book study on Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone would not only be incredible, but unforgettable too!
With Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, our book study will not only engage the students at a high level, it will also facilitate continued literacy and provide an opportunity to address a multitude of standards.
The literary value that accompanies this book is incalculable and cannot be overstated. In my experience once a student has fallen in love with the world of Harry Potter they go on to finish all of the books and ultimately grow into lifelong readers. Better still, the library grade binding of the books will ensure that multiple classes of students can benefit from them for years to come!
