My Students

Determined, survivors, hungry for success, these are the students I am blessed to teach. Each day is a day that helps us to recover from Hurricane Harvey. Despite the challenges my students are still recovering from over a year later, they come to school with a positive outlook and a thirst for knowledge. Music is their escape from the heart ache and uncertainty of their life of recovery.

I can see their desire to excel as young musicians, yearning to make beautiful music.

My Project

My students need basic supplies for their musical instruments. Reeds, valve oil, cleaning kits, drum sticks and drum heads are all necessary for our students to use their instruments and to maintain their condition.

Many of my students can not afford even the most basic supplies, our community is in a rural area with low income families.

We do not have a sufficient tax base or strong industry to supply employment for our families.

Music is a way of life in this region, many successful musicians and country artists such as Tracy Bird, "The Big Bopper", and George Jones have been brought up in this area. I never know when the next Janis Joplin may walk through my doors.
