Continuing with the "Harlem Youth and the French Connection Part I" this proposal targets one student who wishes to attend this year's trip to France. "John" is an eighth grade student at Kappa II. Unlike his other classmates who entered the school in 2002, he entered K2 last year. Where most of his classmates found French easy, "John" found it incredibly difficult to master. He had much to "catch-up" and in the beginning, failed many of his exams and reports. However, John's commitment and maturity persevered, and in two short months, was able to adapt and quickly learn two years worth of French in two short months. Like many of the students in East Harlem, John comes from a single parent home. His mother is dedicated and places high expectations on her son concerning his educational future. Here is a parent that works full-time, is raising two sons, and enforces the value of an education in the home. Earlier in the month of October, John's mother called me at school to inform me that although she was pleased that John was selected to attend France, she would not be able to find the funds to send him. I was devastated! Here is a student that worked so hard in class and is now being presented with a once in a lifetime opportunity to visit France, but may not attend the trip because of funds! I told her that I would find sponsors to fund his trip to France! Please sponsor a wonderful student to France! Don't let funds stop a bright student from experiencing a once in a lifetime opportunity!
