Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
In my class we have a competition! Twelve sight word lists, 20 words each. 240 total when the basic requirement is only 40 words. They have the WHOLE school year to work on this goal. Friendly competition is already happening 5 students have passed list one, and two are already on list 4. After every list they get a certificate, a small treat, and a star on the "Wall of Fame"! Their excitement over passing each list is the best part. They are extremely motivated, and they all want to win the first prize tablet as promised. They are so motivated that I decided to see if I can extend the prizes to the first FIVE students instead of the first student only. I hope to award five students with an Amazon Fire Tablet. Not only will it serve as a great incentive, they will also be able to take it home and use a lot of wonderful programs that the school provides in order to continue enriching their education. Some programs that they will have access to are Imagine Learning, Wonders (which is our language arts program) and GO Math (Which is our math program)
My Project
With the motivator of earning a new tablet for working hard at learning far above the required sight words, I feel my students will not only grow as readers, but also as life time learners. They will see that hard work, is infect worth the effort. These tablets will allow my students to continue to enrich their school career, at home by accessing the many programs offered by our school, such as imagine learning, Wonders, and other programs. Most students in our population do not have access to the use of technology outside of the school setting, these would be such a gift!
