This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The wonderful students who attend my school are located in an high poverty, urban neighborhood. Many of them live in single parent households with that one parent working two jobs. Others live with grandparents due to unfortunate circumstances through no fault of their own. They have tough lives but still seem to be happy kids. My greatest goal for my students is to create children who desire to read. With this goal, everything else will just fall into place. Without this, they will struggle in many areas throughout life.
My Project
Several years ago I was fortunate enough to receive from donors a brand new carpet for my classroom. I was elated to get this very large and comfortable rug.
Wear and tear has taken a toll on my classroom rug and I'm in desperate need of a new one.
My school is fairly new, but the upper grades were never given classroom rugs. With today's technology and the use of projected activities, a rug for all my students to congregate in one spot is not a want, but a necessity.
This rug would be used for whole group, small group, and individual activities for all subject areas. I allows my student comfort not gained from desks or sitting on the cold, hard floor.
