Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in an inner city school district where a large percentage of of our students live below poverty level. Each year I have students who come in below grade level and I have some who are advanced and several that fall in between. The hardest part of being a teacher is adequately meeting the needs of all of these students and finding what motivates each one and help them to succeed. My students want to do their best and always rise to the expectations I set for them. They are amazing kids, who want to set goals for themselves and attain those goals through hard work and dedication. I have found that learning through technology not only engages my students but prepares them to be 21st century learners.
My Project
As an inner city school teacher I often purchase my own materials and create my own activities for learning objectives. My students are little and often ruin paper activates quickly. So I am often remaking things or having to make multiple copies. Having a laminator will help to make materials my students use everyday durable and sturdy. Though having our activities in a hard coating is great, sitting on the cold hard floor is not. Seat cushions for the students to use during independent reading and other activities will make learning a little more comfortable.
Often the activities I create require students to have letters to build words and manipulate sounds then record their thinking.
Right now we share a couple of sets of magnetic letters and write and wipe markers. Having enough of these items for the whole class would make learning fun.
Being able to create multiple activities, games and lessons that can be used for a long time and have the materials to participate in these lessons in a comfy environment will make learning in our room is so much better.
