My Students

I teach third grade at a diverse school in southwest Florida. Our students come from numerous cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. They are hard workers and love to learn!

This school year has been a challenge for everyone so far, but we are persevering.

I am currently team teaching with another third grade teacher. We have 36 third graders. Twenty-eight are here in-person and eight are remote learners. (These numbers keep changing!) Our two classes include special education students, English language learners, and gifted learners! We hope next year can be a more normal school year!

My Project

For this project, I am requesting 22 student licenses for Happy Numbers, a website that I am currently using for math intervention and enrichment with both our remote and in-person learners. I have used this website for several years and I know how helpful it is to my students. It meets them at their level and moves them forward!

Mastering math is about more than just getting the right answer.

Students need to understand the reasoning behind their actions, having the flexibility to respond to challenges along the way.

Happy Numbers technology allows for hands-on modeling with a diverse range of manipulatives. Through multiple representations (number line, hundred chart, base-10 blocks, etc.), students approach math from different angles and move from concrete to abstract thinking. New concepts are introduced strategically — students acquire new learning while reinforcing prior knowledge and forging connections between the two.

With Happy Numbers, students learn to "think math" and achieve procedural fluency.
