My Project

Our students spent way too long restricted to their homes during Covid-19, and here we are in one of the most museum-enriched cities in the West, greater Denver metropolitan area. Museum Mondays is a focus I am highlighting here this year to get students thinking about a different learning opportunity at area parks and museums all year long. These materials will be used as a part of creating and enhancing the hall bulletin board featuring a different learning opportunity and place to go -- outside of the classroom -- all year long. With a classroom table, I will also provide incentives and tips for low-cost entry (like information on free days that are already provided on specific calendar days) for our students. The goal is to allow students to learn from hands-on and original artifacts like fossils and original artifacts: the coat of Kit Carson at Colorado History Museum, the car of Amelia Earhart at Forney Transportation Museum, for instance. What could be a more exciting learning discovery?

We sometimes take for granted that children coming through school will be interested and motivated by icons of history, explanation, and learning, but our students here are from all parts of the globe.

They need such an introduction, and these first-hand museum artifacts are just the thing to get them excited to explore.

In addition to using attention-gathering brightly colored paper and borders to create our hall "Museum Monday" bulletin board, I will use these resources as part of the creation process to videotape blurbs about the focus areas on our morning announcements. They will also assist in formation of "Free-Day Friday" where I recount details of low-cost entry when available.
