Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I teach at a high-poverty turnaround school in Mississippi. With that being said, I also teach some of the most kind and loving students that I have ever met. Many mornings my students come in the door carrying burdens too big for such little people, but they know at school they are in a safe environment where they can be kids. They come through the hallways with smiles and pep in their step. Our school does not lack willing and excited scholars. What we do lack is resources. As a 1st grade teacher, my students need technology, experiment supplies, and field experiences.

My students persevere daily, through their struggles, with a super positive attitude!

From the moment they walk into the classroom, I focus on their potential and growth. My goal is to provide students with a loving and safe environment. I want each student to know that they are important. Their joy for learning makes me look forward to coming to work each day.

My Project

This is a project requesting headphones for Chromebooks and tablets, to increase students' understanding through apps and computer software. We currently lack the necessary resources to make this happen. The ability for the students to listen without disrupting others is a step in the right direction. The Chromebooks and tablets will allow students to explore science beyond the curriculum as well as the textbook.

The ability to listen and focus without distractions will allow students to clearly understand the content being taught.

With the increased use of technology, I am hoping to increase not only the student's understanding of the world around them, but to also increase their love for learning. Please consider helping me further my students' educational experience and understanding.
