Help me give my students books to read on their level and academic games they can play by purchasing black and colored ink, copy paper, and laminating pouches.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students come to school every day eager to learn. I work at a Title I school with almost 400 students from Pre-Kindergarten to 5th grade. 100% of our students qualify for free breakfast and lunch. The coronavirus pandemic has completely changed learning. In the classroom we had whole group instruction, group work, work stations, and small group time at the teacher table everyday. Small group time is my favorite because I get to work with students in groups of four or five on math skills and reading books on their level.
Then the coronavirus happened.
Now my students are having to learn from their homes. Some of my students do not have access to the internet. Other students are not getting online and are just working with their parents. Howevever, I have nine students who eagerly get online daily to have class with me on Google Meets.
My Project
Online books and academic games have their place, but my students need to hold a book in their hand and read it. They need academic games they can manipulate with their hands. This is why I am requesting these supplies. I want my kids to have books on their level that they can read at home, and we can discuss online. I want them to have academic games to play, and then we can discuss their learning.
These items will give them some of our classroom learning experiences at home.
I do not want them to loose their momentum in reading or math during our distant learning time.
